The UK government has announced a significant increase in Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) that will come into effect this April, impacting 59 popular car models from major manufacturers including Ford, BMW, and Toyota.

What's Changing?

From April 2025, the first-year VED rate for certain vehicles will rise to as much as £5,690. This applies to new cars with higher CO2 emissions, as part of the government's push towards greener motoring.

Which Models Are Affected?

The tax hike primarily targets vehicles with CO2 emissions above 255g/km. Popular models affected include:

  • FordRanger Raptor, Mustang GT
  • BMWX5 M Competition, X6 M, M5
  • ToyotaLand Cruiser, Hilux
  • What Does This Mean for Buyers?

If you're considering purchasing a new vehicle, it may be worth acting before April to avoid the increased tax burden. Alternatively, opting for a used vehicle can help you sidestep these new charges entirely.
